Electric Bike Maintenance in Pakistan: A Complete Owner's Guide

An electric bike needs much less routine maintenance than a petrol motorcycle. MS Jaguar electric bikes are designed so you don't need oil changes, tuning or chain and sprocket replacements. But tyres, brakes, electrical connections, suspension and the battery still need regular care.

This guide from the MS Jaguar team covers routine maintenance for Pakistani conditions, from dusty roads and summer heat to monsoon rain and load-shedding.

Quick answer: how do you maintain an electric bike?

  • Check tyre pressure, brakes, lights and the horn regularly.

  • Charge only with the original charger supplied for your model.

  • Keep the battery, charging port and electrical connections clean and dry.

  • Clean with a damp cloth or soft sponge. Avoid pressure-washing electrical parts.

  • Watch for warning messages, unusual noises, sudden range changes or excess heat.

  • Use an authorised MS Jaguar dealer for repairs and warranty work.

Why electric bike maintenance still matters

  • Safety: tyres, brakes, lights and suspension affect how safely the bike handles.

  • Range: correct tyre pressure and brakes that don't drag help you get the full 90–100 km from an E-70, or 150–170 km from an E-125.

  • Reliability: spotting a loose connection or a new noise early stops small problems becoming expensive ones.

  • Warranty: MS Jaguar electric bikes carry a 5-year battery warranty and a 1-year motor warranty. Following the owner's manual, using the original charger and keeping service records helps protect that cover.

What's different from a petrol motorcycle?

Electric bikes don't need engine-oil changes, spark plugs, air-filter servicing, clutch-plate maintenance or carburettor tuning. MS Jaguar electric bikes, the E-70, E-70 Supreme and E-125, are designed to be maintenance-free in these areas, with no oil changes, no tuning and no chain or sprocket replacements. That's a big part of why an E-70 costs about Rs 1,000 a month to run.

Tyres, brakes, bearings, suspension, lights and electrical components still need regular inspection.

What's inside an MS Jaguar electric bike

1. Battery and charging

LFP is one of the most durable battery types available. It's known for high thermal stability, which suits Pakistan's heat, and MS Jaguar's packs are rated for 3,500 charge cycles with a 10-year expected lifespan. A few simple habits help you get the most from it:

  • Use only the charger supplied for your model. A market charger may charge at the wrong voltage and could affect your warranty.

  • Keep the charging port closed, clean and dry when not in use.

  • Avoid regularly riding until the bike shuts down.

  • Charge in a shaded, ventilated place away from water and anything that can burn.

  • If the battery is unusually hot, damaged, swollen, leaking or smells unusual, stop charging and contact an authorised dealer.

  • Never open or try to repair the battery pack yourself.

For charging habits, heat, storage and battery ageing in more detail, see How to Make an Electric Bike Battery Last Longer.

2. Tyres: check regularly

  • Check the pressure at least once a week, and before longer trips.

  • Use the pressure in your owner's manual or on the tyre label.

  • Look for cuts, nails, uneven wear and bulges.

  • Replace worn or damaged tyres promptly.

Low tyre pressure is one of the most common reasons for lower range. It also affects handling.

3. Brakes: make safety checks routine

  • Before riding, check that the brake levers feel firm and the brakes respond properly.

  • Listen for persistent squealing, grinding or unusual noises.

  • MS Jaguar electric bikes have a smart brake cut-off system, which cuts motor power when you brake. Check it works as described in your owner's manual.

  • Ask an authorised technician to inspect worn pads, shoes or cables.

If braking feels weak or unpredictable, don't ride until the bike has been inspected.

4. Clean the bike without damaging electrical parts

  • Use a damp cloth or soft sponge with mild soapy water.

  • Don't spray a hose or pressure washer at the battery, motor, controller, display, switches or charging port.

  • Dry the bike after cleaning, especially around connectors and the charging area.

  • Remove dust regularly, particularly after riding on dusty roads.

  • Never charge while the charging port or nearby electrical parts are wet.

5. Lights, display and electrical connections

Regularly check the headlight, indicators, brake light, horn and display. MS Jaguar electric bikes have automatic error detection, so pay attention to any warning shown on the meter, as well as intermittent power, loose connectors or sudden changes in performance.

Don't modify the wiring or add electrical accessories without checking with an authorised dealer. Modifications can be unsafe and may affect your warranty.

6. Motor, wheels and suspension

MS Jaguar electric bikes use sealed BLDC motors that need very little routine maintenance, but the wheels and suspension still need inspection. Contact an authorised technician if you notice:

  • Grinding, clicking or unusually loud motor noise

  • A wheel that doesn't turn freely

  • Loose or damaged wheel hardware

  • Leaking suspension, unusual bouncing or poor handling

Never try to repair the motor, controller or battery yourself.

Seasonal care for Pakistani conditions

Summer heat

  • Park in the shade or a cool, ventilated area when possible.

  • Let the battery cool down after a long ride before charging.

  • Avoid leaving the bike in a closed, very hot space for long periods.

LFP batteries handle heat better than many other battery types, which is why MS Jaguar uses them for Pakistan's climate. Shade and sensible charging still help them last longer.

Monsoon and rain

  • Avoid flooded roads and deep standing water.

  • After riding in the rain, dry the bike and check the charging port and connectors.

  • Make sure the charging area is dry before plugging in.

  • Don't assume the bike is waterproof. Follow the water-resistance guidance in your owner's manual.

Winter and fog

  • Range may drop temporarily in colder weather. This is normal.

  • Check lights and brakes before riding in fog.

Dust

  • Wipe the bike regularly.

  • Keep the charging port cover closed and check exposed parts for dust build-up.

7. Storing an electric bike for several weeks

LFP batteries store well. For extended storage, a partial charge (neither full nor empty) in a cool, dry place is the usual guidance. Follow the exact storage steps in your owner's manual.

  • Clean and dry the bike.

  • Switch off the main breaker as described in the owner's manual and secure the bike.

  • Store it in a cool, dry, shaded place.

  • Check the battery at the intervals the manual recommends.

  • Check tyre pressure and basic controls before riding again.
